Denmark was named one of the top four happiest countries in the world this year, so there is no better place for a couple to have both a destination wedding and a honeymoon in the beautiful capital of Copenhagen.

Cobblestoned Copenhagen is the perfect spot for a couple to marry and then travel as newlyweds. It looks like the pages of a storybook (and fittingly was home to Hans Christian Anderson) while boasting several hip districts and an edgy fashion scene.

Wedding guests can explore the scenic city during the days before the ceremony, visiting Kronborg castle immortalized by Shakespeare’s Hamlet and seeing the original Carlsberg brewery that opened in 1847. They can cruise Strøget , the city’s high-end shopping area, and enjoy some fabulous New Nordic Cuisine.

One of the biggest attractions to have a wedding in the city is be the fact that Denmark made history in 1998 by becoming the first nation ever to recognize same-sex partnerships. Many public figures in Denmark are openly gay and are praised as for being role models to the country’s young LGBTQ community.

Copenhagen is known for being one of the most gay-friendly places in the world and is ideal for the stylish yet culture-filled honeymoon. Europe’s oldest gay bar, Centralhjørnet, is located in the city, as well as an array of gay-friendly boutiques and a busy calendar of queer events that occur throughout the year.

There is even a city square beside the town hall named Rainbow Square in honour of Copenhagen’s quest for equal rights among its citizens. The city has paved the way for marriage-equality across the globe and is beautifully fitting for any special wedding or honeymoon.
