Real Weddings
Lucas & Alex
Our Story
When it comes to planning your big day, things tend to become a little overwhelming… it’s also not the cheapest thing in the world.
The reason why I loved planning this wedding, is because Lucas & Alex did something different. They chose to forgo the traditional large ceremony, and rather have a small intimate gathering with their closest loved ones, and celebrate their love and union.
The ceremony itself took place at City Hall. Short, simple and sweet. No photos, no fluff and no stress.
Afterwards, they gathered together with some amazing people with drinks, hors d’oeuvres and a fun little photobooth as the guests came in to sign the book.
I personally must say that my favourite part of the night was when they wheeled a television out and surprised Lucas with a video and messages from all his family back home in Brazil who couldn’t be there. My friend and photographer of the event, Lissa Varga, and I both looked at each other trying to choke back tears… yes, even we as vendors are not immune to the romance and beauty of love.

How many guests did you have at your wedding?
We had 30 for the ceremony at the Toronto City Hall and 65 at the venue for the reception.
Did you have a set budget, and did you manage to stay within it?
Yes, we did have a set budget, and went a little bit over than we expected, but nothing serious! At the end of
the day, there are many more things in a wedding than we can imagine!
What was the theme/colour scheme you were trying to achieve?
Well, we decide for a dark colour. Pretty much between black/silver.
What was an important aspect to choosing your vendors?
The quality of everything.
How did you decide on your colour scheme for the reception?
Well, the venue was already a bit decorated with dark colours and red details, so we tried to stick more to a modern/chic look.
Did you have a favourite element of your wedding?
Definitely the Sweet Station, it was something I was looking forward to see and I ended up more amazed than I thought I’d be.
What would be the one piece of advice you would give to couples planning their wedding?
If you can, HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER! It doesn’t seem much, but it is very stressful to organize a wedding!
Anything you wish you would have known when planning your wedding?
Not really, I’m a bit ‘obsessed’ with weddings, so a few months before the big day I had already watched all of the Wedding Shows you can imagine, LITERALLY!
What was the one thing that you were willing to splurge on?
Definitely Alcohol! I really wanted my friends and family to enjoy as much as they could!
