WEDDING THEME : Game of Thrones PART I

When A Game of Thrones premiered on HBO in 2011, the fan base for the already established A Song of Ice and Fire series exploded in numbers. As a result of the series making its way into popular culture, even if you’ve never watched the show or read the books, chances are very good you’ve at least heard of it. For those of you who are fans, however, here are some venue ideas for a GoT themed wedding that is neither red nor purple.

No wedding feast is complete without a grand hall to celebrate it in. Although any large space will do with the right décor, stone walls or floors make the space feel a little more authentic. Whether the place already comes pre-furnished with medieval decorations, suits of armour, trophy heads, and wall mounted weapons are a great place to start.

Speaking of ale, don’t drink anything less than the finest ale out of your horn mug. The Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, New York is one example of a company that creates brews specifically for fans of the series. Although these are not available in Canada, you can use their selections as a guideline for your own ale and beer choices.

As fans will remember, the character called Sansa Stark had a favourite desert: lemon cakes. These finger foods are a simple yet delicious addition to any desert spread you have planned. In fact, you can use the recipe suggestions in the companion book A Feast of Ice and Fire for your entire meal plan. This book details all the notable meals described in the series, from the simple breakfast to the elaborate feast dishes. Bon appetit!
